Say “NO” to a shelter for homeless sex offenders opening in Farmingdale

Residents and business owners and operators in Farmingdale need to put a stop to County Executive Steve Levy’s plan to open a homeless shelter in Farmingdale for sex offenders. He has pin-pointed 3 possible locations for this shelter:

79 Gazza Blvd.
Rt. 109 near Wendy’s (across from airport)
Marine St. and Allen Blvd. (behind Fun Zone)

Even though Levy is assuring us that it will be in an industrial area and be 1000’ away from schools, parks, etc., as required by law, any one of these locations is still well within walking distance to many child oriented business’ in our area such as Fun Zone, Adventureland, Dave and Busters, Bounce U, NY Party Zone, Bouncers and Slydos, Farmingdale Bowl, Wood Kingdom, Bear Kingdom, Laser Kingdom, Nursery Schools, Day Care Centers, Farmingdale College, and countless restaurants and stores.
The decision for the location is expected to be chosen within the next month. So time is of the extreme essence! Call and email Steve Levy to express your opposition to this shelter at 631-853-4000 e-mail address: county.executive@suffolkcounty.gov. Let him know you are aware of his plans to run for Governor and he will not get your vote if this shelter lands in our backyard! Keep the pressure on him until he agrees not to open this shelter in our area.

If this problem is not resolved by Feb. 2nd your voice can be heard by the legislatures at a meeting in the William Rogers Legislative Building located at 725 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge, NY 11788 on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 9:30 a.m.

Legislature DuWayne Gregory is helping us in opposing the shelter from coming to our district. You can call him with any questions or concerns on the matter at 631-854-1111.
