Unfortunately the only way the salaries will be reigned in is to rid teachers of the union. It's not a bad job, suck it up for 5 years, get tenure and then don't worry about your job until you retire all the while getting a raise every time the contract comes up, not to mention the pension they receive. And this comes from someone who has several friends that are teachers...
