The 800K for the field isn't coming from the school budget. It is being paid for with unsolicited grants from Albany. It was one of those "use it for that purpose, or lose it" things.
I do think that Albany could find better use for those funds, but the school district would be foolish to turn them down.
The budget for the upcoming fiscal year is discussed at several of the monthly board meetings leading up to the budget vote in May. The meetings are open to the public and they supply written material to all that attend.
The school district also mails out budget information to the public prior to the budget vote.
There is plenty of information out there for anyone who is interested in reviewing it.
