The holidays are coming and reports from our government say that lead recalls in toys is dramatically lowered from last year. 112 toys were recalled last year in 2007 and we are at about "only" 62 this year, so far. I don't think that's dramatic, especially considering that one of the toys last year sold to millions of unsuspecting parents. In 2005, the number was 12. The feds also tells us that China is the number one importer of lead toys. 600 ppm is the limit and new laws enacted by Congress will bring the limits down to 300ppm, but that's not until the Summer of 2009. No longer can we count on the brand names like Mattel and Hasbro to bring us safe toys or atleast to be diligent about lead based paint in the toys they produce. So be alert to recalls and make intelligent decisions when you purchase Made in China products.
