I contacted the chief when they changed the siren and they said they were looking into lowering the volume and shortening the length. It has gotten louder and while not longer they now run the siren on back to back alerts. He also told me they have a curfew of 8:30-8:30 and I am now hearing this before 8a.m. While I understand most people are up and going to work/school, my children are still sleeping until this ridiculously loud siren sounds.
I have said it before and I will say it again, I do not discount what the volunteers do for us at all. I just don't believe that it is necessary for them to deafen me or my family in the process.
Let's face it, the only reason they 'upgraded' the siren was so we can all remember where are tax dollars are going, in this day and age there are other means of notification. Frankly, when they have their yearly fund raiser, I think I may pass...
