It's coming, and you'll shop there and if the produce, meats, and pharmacy are cheaper you will not drive to a local pharmacy, Best Yet, or Pat's Meat Farms nor will you stop by a local florist for a dozen roses where you can throw them in your Stop and Shop cart. And, if they had their way, you wouldn't need any surrounding gas stations. What part of this do you disagree with? As for bodegas, you are speaking about owners that work 6-7 days a week, invest their lives into the business, and average 90 hours a week to feed their families. Whereas I support the small businesses, you apparently think nothing of them or their families so we're from different backgrounds. Stop and Shop is the type of corporation that the Federal Government rules against when they become dangerously close to monopolizing market share. If you believe that Stop and Shop is looking out for you or Farmingdale, bless your ignorance. As for impact, that's just Economics 101. Between Butch Starkie and myself, we share a total of 60 years experience in business and competition, so as far as "impact", you can bet that these strangers that won the Liberty Site battle will most definitely disrupt businesses in Farmingdale. In a constantly changing economy you may have noticed, by chance, that one huge corporation swallows the next and so on. The small business owner, that does not buy in bulk or have the advantage of multiple outlets will not get the best prices. The impact is inevitable, unless there are more people like me and less like you that won't turn their backs on the hard working small businesses. If the Variety Store on Main has what I need, I'll buy it from there regardless of price, and if they don't have it, I'll go to ACE, and then if forced to, I'll give Home Depot my money. I do not own, nor will I ever carry a BJ's card. As you drive in and out of Stop and Shop keep in mind that the money you spend leaves Farmingdale and lands in the hands of the AHOLD corporation, I'm proud to say that when I shop, my money goes to that "glorified" bodega on Merritts Road, Motor Ave., and Main st.
