Yes, you can have almost any rifle or shotgun in your house and if you are willing to go through a tedious application process you can get a pistol permit. The rules for using a pistol in threatening circumstances vary greatly by state. Florida where permits are easilly obtained are honored by more than 15 states such as PA and NC and have what is called the "castle doctrine" which says if your life or home are in danger (invaded) you do not have to retreat but can use deadly force. The supreme court recently ruled that the second ammendment gives every citizen the INDIVIDUAL right to be armed. Local rules still apply. You can rely on the local police and their response timne to protect you and your family or you can decide to be responsible for your own safety-a no brainer for me..By the way the last time I checked you can get a Florida full carry permit without having an address there (Not good however in NY-but valid in many other states)
