EPA Library Meeting

A few weeks ago I attended, along with many concerned residents, an EPA meeting about plans for the Massapequa Preserve, etc. The question of the Liberty Site cleanup was asked, and basically the EPA responded that they were only required to clean it enough for commercial/industrial use. Obviously, if plans were in place for other projects, they would have gone further, but no need to apparently. One member of the EPA told me that those working in the basement of the Proposed Stop and Shop would not be affected by the toxins that remain there because of the amount of time they will be exposed to it. That's pretty scary to me. A government agent telling me that people working there will not be in danger because the "amount" of exposure is nominal. Well, ignorance is bliss as I say quite often in this forum. So for those of you that think this is a great job creator and a place necessary for food shopping, I'd check with the EPA on that little fact. Cleaning up only to the limit necessary? Then again, maybe they won't need to dig into the ground for basement storage, they have enough room to work out ground level storage and working area. I think someone missed something here. But don't take my word for it, speak to the EPA about it, I'm only quoting what I was told specifically at the library and the answers weren't coming fast enough. Nedktr thinks I'm arrogant, nah. Maybe Ned can check for himself and let us all know if the EPA should have gone further. See you at Waldbaums Ned.
