If you want to meet people that are against Stop & Shop, you should have attended the Town Hall meeting, unless by "meet" you mean actually speak to them and ask them "why not"? The anti S&S group you speak of, are the taxpaying residents who vote for politicians to make important decisions for them concerning the quality of life we all enjoy here. They are the same people that continue to fight the expansion of Republic Airport, attend CCAF meetings for information about drinking water standards, plumes from dry cleaners that sink into the ground to poison this water. The South Farmingdale Water District made a presentation just a few months ago. Residents against Stop & Shop, meet with the 5th precinct P.O.P. officer to discuss graffitti, illegals, absentee landlords that rent houses to multiple families and drain our school system, bank robberies, gang shootings (we have 4 gangs here), Superintendant of the Farmingdale school system John Lorentz to discuss the new budget and ask how the money is going to be spent. They ask about libraries on a list to close down, airport noise, roll down gates on new store fronts which is illegal, stop signs, traffic lights, how the new OTB was going to look, the final destruction of the blight that once was Raven's Nest. These same residents attend CCAF meetings to discuss school incidents, such as the shooting not too long ago, and they meet with Legislator Dave Mejias, Town Board Members, officials from every branch of local government, Board of Education, President of the Pilot's Associaton for questions pertaining to Republic's expansion. They ask about ATV's and their illegal runs through our parks and the alcohol they drink when they are there. They ask about sex offenders and complain about their re-location into Farmingdale. The topics, concerns, and involvement are endless. So from the smallest to the largest issues affecting everyday life for us here in Farmingdale, these concerned residents are pro-active in their community. There are things that many residents in Farmingdale may take for granted but don't realize that it is the effort of the concerned residents that take it upon themselves to make Farmingdale better. And while they do much on their own, they also come to CCAF meetings for information and answers. CCAF serves the members. CCAF is a great informational tool for all residents. CCAF has its Mission statement on its website. Concerned Citizens Association of Farmingdale is not an anti Stop & Shop group, it serves its membership. CCAF is an association of members that live in Farmingdale, North Massapequa, and part of Bethpage. The CCAF Board does an outstanding job for this town and for its members and if they receive only a "thank you" from time to time, that is gratification enough. None of them have monetary interest nor are they running for office. The CCAF Board is tireless as they fight for the quality of life in Farmingdale to improve, and they are not a rampant group of individuals with an agenda despite what some may perceive. The fact that CCAF has fought for 4 years, the constrution of Stop & Shop means that they have fought for their membership, an intelligent, informed, pro-active group of neighbors that want to continue to enjoy this beautiful town. Stop & Shop was one fight out of dozens that the CCAF had to face. It was a tough fight and although the Civic Association's membership was disappointed with the outcome, no one can say CCAF didn't fight for them. In fact, it was the unlimited amount of finances and advertisement available to Stop & Shop that persuaded targeted residents. Large or small, CCAF will continue to fight to represent the wishes of its membership. Although Stop & Shop is a very large hot button issue, tommorrow brings more challenges large and small, but you can be sure that CCAF will continue their volunteer work to help Farmingdale homeowners stay informed. Before condemning CCAF, perhaps you would attend a meeting to understand more about this Civic Association, and if you have questions feel free to ask, you will never get an arrogant partisan answer, only information and help. This Civic Association is a gift to this community and although you may not agree with its membership's vote to say "no" to Stop & Shop, you may very well be curious about other topics concerning this town. You will be welcome and greeted with smiles, meet fellow neighbors that share your concerns, and if there's something on your mind you can be sure that CCAF is here to serve you and your family.
