After the snows

Times remain difficult for Pearson College. There will always be disagreement about how the college ought to be run. That is a good thing. I feel for the current staff, however, who are muzzled by the Pact of Silence they must sign, agreeing not to criticize the administration of their workplace. Ironically this document is called the “Ethics Code”. Faculty and staff can’t speak out about serious problems because their jobs and their pensions are at stake.

The students also need support. Isolated as the college is, the voices of the students are shouted to the treetops on the shores of Peddar Bay but are not heard beyond there. The administration acts as insulation for the Board (but for the few members who do visit the college from time to time), and the Board has only as much power as the Foundation gives it the funds to utilize. Jim Coutts, immediate past chair of the Board, controls the Foundation.

Interestingly, the Pearson Magic Forum appears to have been tampered with. I say that because some important documents, very embarrasing to the College, are not visible any more. There is another website with information for those who might be interested: The Village Meeting Forum

Most of us who care about Pearson College have been silenced by constant stonewalling, litigation and threats of litigation by the administration and certain Board members. We do still care, though, and are simply waiting for the spring thaw to bring new life to this cherished institution. Once the snows of the current administration have melted we hope to see a fresh start. And, if asked, I think most of us would want to chip in. After the snows.
