wFarmingdale Downtown is Gone

Posted by VinJoe ® , Feb 20,2012,21:11 Post Reply   Forum
What is wrong with Farmingdale? What was once the best local down-town (when I got here 35 years ago) is now deserted or nearly deserted. So many empty stores, our down-town is gone!

Yet go to Massapeqau Park and there "Main Street" is triving. NOT one empty store? Go look, NOT one! Why is that? Has any asked themselves why is that? Why is Massapeqau Park down-town triving while Farmingdale's down-town dying?

What happened to Farmingdale???

the era of blaming bush is over this whole economic mess we're in is all on obamas watch! i warned people not to vote for obama, but they didnt listen. now people like me paid the price by being laid off last year. working part time at macys with no benefits is better than nothing and believe me i've been applying for jobs left and right and have gotten a few interviews with no sucess yet. folks if you havent seen the destruction that this president has done or it hasnt affected you, you need to wake up and smell the coffee. dont believe his gabage that things are going great in this country or that he's doing everything he can to help this country. i like to pay attention to the news, do the research, listen to the right radio talk shows to stay informed. i remember downtown farmingdale when i lived there, it was bustlin with businesses. i want to see things get better in farmingdale as well as everywhere else in the country. i do not see that happening if obama gets re elected. god help us all if he wins re election! come november its gonna be romney or obama. im picking romney. think about this for starters...whom do you want to make your healthcare decisions come 2014, your own doctor or obama??

what the unnecessary wars has cost this country?
We've lost how many men and women 6000? Not to mention the $1.3 trillions of dollars that certainly could have been better spent on he good ole USA's infrastructure.
Now let us look 2001 when President Clinton's administration left with a surplus which immediately vanished due to Mr. Bush's policies. I guess the question should have been after the first term "are you better off" Certainly not.
Now lets segue to Nassau County and the rhetoric from Mr. Mangano this past week. Repubs have held the county executive position what 40 our 50 years and its Suozzi's fault. Who signed those sweetheart deals with all those unions?

Oh my god, R U all kidding me, if CLINTON would have been on the job instead of being, well you know what he was doing, he could have taken out BIN LADIN in Sudan in 1998 and there would have been no 911 and no wars. SURPLUS, where was that? Don't we have debt. The surplus just covered the debt a drop for gods sake! BOTH parties are full of it. The countries broke!! The state is broke! Roads are falling apart! Have you ever seen Hempstead Turnpike so crappy. U notice the state doesn't fix it because they DONT HAVE THE MONEY! BOTH parties have ruined NASSAU COUNTY. FARMINGDALE downtown is dead! Who the heck wants to come and shop here! TIME TO MOVE!

iraq war was based on false intelligence afghanistan was justified because of 9 11 we took out bin laden as well as many terrorists so i guess next time we have another attack on our country ,god forbid,we should just sit there and do norhing? why would we elect an inexperienced moron with a questionable past into the white house at a time when our country was floundering? it makes no sense. bush wasnt perfect, no president is. but obama clearly doesnt know what he is doing. i.e. the 2008 stimulus package, 1 trillion dollars for programs like rutgers university study on the dna of lice or another program to teach basket weaving in maine. how are these programs supposed to stimulate the economy?? back in 2008 there was so much hatred for bush that so many americans failed to see obamas fatal flaws. bush started the 2 wars in the middle east and obama was against them at first. soon as he took office he continued the 2 wars and added More troops. as for nassau county i cant comment since i havent lived there in a long time

the war in iraq was based on false intelligence true ill give you that, but afghanistan was justified, that terrorist organization with bin laden at the helm killed 3,000 of our citizens. ok so next time we have anothet 9 11 god forbid we should do nothing about it? we captured the mastermind of 911 and killed bin laden along with countless terrorists. ok so bush screwed up, he wasnt perfect no president is, but instead of putting an experienced candidate in the whitehouse during a time when this country was failing we put some moron inexperienced junior senator from illinois whos past and background are questionable. hope and change he said, now our country is much much worse than it was in 2008. there was such hatred of bush that people failed ti see obamas dangerous flaws. i.e the stimulus package of 2008 that was spent on things like studying the dna of lice at rutgers university and teaching basket weaving in maine. 1 trillion dollars for wasteful programs like this. how is this going to stimulate the economy?? this is how stupid obama is. as for nassau county i cant comment since i havent lived there in a long time.

You're right. Massapequa Park, although right next to the Sunrise Mall, has a clean, fully tenanted and safe downtown. So ask yourself the following. Does Massapequa Park allow tattoo parlors and dope smoking shops? Are they going to let a developer build over 500 apartments? What do you think?

Now that Lasalle Regional School is closing, main street is really going to be hurting. All the parents and kids that used to frequent main street will now be a memory.

I have lived in Farmingdale for 36 years, and you are right, it has gotten worse. There are too many empty stores and the Village has done nothing to change that. The mayor has not been proactive in getting diverse businesses like they have in Massapequa Park, Huntington and Babylon. The mayor should be working with the landlords to get diverse businesses by offering them tax breaks, so they can pass it on to the prospective tenants. In this economy, he should be doing all he can to promote business, instead of promoting his own, and having parking ticket blitzes. He has been the worst mayor in the 36 years I have lived here, and I am glad he is not running again. The residents of Farmingdale have no love for him. I can only hope that the female candidate who is running will win and change things so that Farmingdale can become the town it used to be.

I am not looking to blame anyone. All politicians are alike!!!! I just make the point that Massapequa Park looks totally different than we do and that bothers me a lot since Farmingdale down town used to be the down town everyone envied. I have lived here >32 years myself and I love Fdale but my kids have moved to NJ since they could not buy a house here and NJ is not cheap my any means either, but cheaper than LI. My home is my biggest investment and now I am sorry I did not buy in MP. Now Bolingers has also closed, Waldaums is vacant a few buildings on Conklin between Merrit and 109 are vacant and look TERRIBLE as you enter the village and the biggest thing I hear is we are getting a hotel BIG DEAL!This place has been going down for years and is DEAD! Massapequa Park is thriving?????

Check out Babylon Village downtown just a short 7 miles south of Farmingdale. Saturday late evening the place was hoping. Young couples walking around, ecomony is bad but the resturants looked packed, no empty vacant stores and they kept their small independant movie theather open. Felt like a real village. What a difference than here! Babylon village is thriving like Massapequa Park village is!
Why are we dying? Why is that?

This was NEWS to me. If that site is contaminated it will NOT be developed for years and will be vacant for a long time and continue to be a very big eyesore (one of many) for the Village! Oh boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
